Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) 7 Day Meal Plan
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) happens when stomach acid flows back into the esophagus (this is the tube that connects your mouth and stomach). This acid reflux can irritate your esophagus andcause symptoms such as heartburn, chest pain, rejurgitation of food, the feeling of a lump in your throat, or difficulty swallowing. Some people also get a chronic cough or need to clear their throat constantly. It can also lead to poor sleep quality, increased throat infections and asthma.
A lot of people experience heartburn occassionaly after a large meal or spicy food, however mild GERD is defined as acid reflux that occurs at least twice a week and severe GERD is where acid reflux occurs at least once a week.
If you suffer from any of these symptoms, you could benefit from a change in diet, where we avoid common GERD tirggers and include foods known to ease GERD symptoms.
