What’s in Season: November in Australia

whats in season naturopath healthy food nutritionist sydney

It’s November already, can you believe it? The weather here in Sydney has been wet and cold, so I haven’t been feeling very seasonal. I’ve been craving winter foods like soup, casseroles and bakes. Fortunately, there is still plenty of veg in season to make these warming dishes, as well as the bounty of summer fruit and veg increasing every week.

Choosing to eat seasonally allows you to get the most bang for your buck with your groceries. The food will be cheaper, fresher, last longer and be jam packed with nutrition. The other bonus is of course that you are supporting local Aussie producers and having less of an environmental footprint by not shipping fresh foods from overseas.

In November we can expect to see the following and veggies readily available and of good quality:

Fruit:

  • Avocados

  • Bananas

  • Blueberries

  • Mulberries

  • Youngberries

  • Cherries

  • Grapefruit

  • Loquats

  • Mangoes

  • Melons

  • Oranges (Valencia)

  • Papaya

  • Papaw

  • Passionfruit

  • Pineapples

Vegetables:

  • Asian greens

  • Asparagus

  • Cabbage

  • Chilies

  • Cucumber

  • Green beans

  • Globe artichoke

  • Lettuce

  • Onions (Spring & Shallots)

  • Peas

  • Potatoes

  • Silverbeet

  • Spinach

  • Sweetcorn

  • Tomatoes

  • Watercress

  • Zucchini

  • Zucchini flowers

What are your favourite fruits and vegetables available in November? I am absolutely loving mangoes. This year they seem to be huge! For veggies, I love dark leafy greens and eat them every day, so silverbeet and spinach get my vote.

I’ve created a fab 1 page guide to what’s in season each month, get it below!
