Health Benefits of Wood Ear Mushrooms

The polysaccharides also act as a prebiotic which is basically the food for beneficial gut bacteria. Studies have shown that these polysaccharides stimulate growth and survival of beneficial strains of gut bacteria, such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium.

Hot water extracts of Wood ear mushroom have have a beneficial effect on blood sugar levels after meals, helping to remain steady instead of causing a blood glucose spike.

Interestingly, there has been some recent research into its anti-convulsant properties and there are some interesting proposed uses for the wood ear mushroom extract, including as an anti-epileptic drug.

Some early research also shows Wood Ear mushroom extract has potent aphrodiasiac effects! So, maybe a good mushroom to add to your Valentine’s dinner menu!
